Welcome To Yarra Cottage Books
Yarra Cottage Books offers a huge range of quality pre-loved books and curios across five rooms. Steve prides himself on being able to find “out of print” and “hard to find” books and enjoys being able to reunite readers with much loved favourites from their past.
The shop has an old world feel and is relatively original. The building used to be the baker’s residence and consists of two mine inspectors’ huts joined together to make one house. They were apparently brought here from the Bendigo or Ballarat goldfields by bullock teams. The front section with the little windows seems to have been added at a later time and was the shop outlet for the Warrandyte Bakery between 1929 and 1951. The bakehouse is still located next door in its own separate shop
The Yarra River flows past the back of the shop which is located on Yarra Street (thus our name). Warrandyte is a very popular place for locals and tourists to visit all year round. It is one of the few remaining villages on the edge of Melbourne’s huge urban sprawl. There is a large children’s playground close by and there are numerous quality eateries and interesting retail outlets open every day. Weekends and holidays can be very busy.
